25 Mar Meet Your Neighbors on Day 2 Strategies

The time has come to accept that boxes need to be unpacked for a week or 2 to settle into your new home. At this point, many people find themselves socially unable to cope with the silence. How do you meet your neighbors? What is the strategy? Let’s find out.

• On the 2nd day, send a letter: Getting acquainted with your neighborhood means discovering your addresses around your home. You won’t have time to do much, but you can type out a letter on your phone or computer that has your contact information on it requesting the contact info of your neighbors by text message. This way you can share unplanned activities or simply a photo of you doing something whenever you do it.

• Starting a group: Simultaneously, starting a WhatsApp or Facebook group for your letter may come in handy. Everybody is used to watching the backs of their neighbors, and you don’t have any on your side. Getting people in a group sometimes takes a week for garage people, but they’ll come around by process of elimination.

• Tape a note to their door: Hey, my name is Brad! I live across the street. I’m not too shy, but I respect your privacy or grind. Please text or call at your convenience. People say it’s better together, so with a conversation we’ll know what’s up.

• Plan in advance: Explaining to yourself about different schedules means that your next big Finals Game could include your neighbors. Spend a little bit of money on party food or simply buy your own fryer and make some jalapeño poppers and cheese sticks by following a tutorial online. You can get creative, but you don’t need all your neighbors to show up if you can get your schedule on. People do not arrive without food provided, but it is still easy to plan in your original communications.

• Pick your neighbor: People with all their time sometimes take all your time. Anything outside your block is still your neighborhood. Saying something nice about their yard or vehicle and then sending them a letter may get you on a boat sooner rather than later. A good strategy is, I’m usually free on Tuesdays; maybe I’ll be around if you need a hand.

• Find kid dates: Explaining your kid’s age sometimes helps too. You’ll bump into the immediates with a wave to vent eventually. But some of them still need kid dates no matter what, and being a victim with boundaries also helps you fit in. That could mean, Thursday we are going to the mall indoor playground if you need a break, I will drive.

Something as simple as buying 2 of something means a vacant seat. Bikes, go-carts, and home bars usually attract some therapy from your surroundings. Keeping your boundaries while being open to church is also only a day investment. “Okay, I usually only go to church a week after my birthday. But, I will go to a church function every few months if you’ll be there too.”
