24 Apr Critters and Moving
The thought of moving your pets is absolute chaos. Most critters are calm, gentle giants; but there are those that cause stress on moving day. A few tips are all we can offer when traveling by land.
• Dogs: You are used to gettin’ your dogs from A to B. Bathroom breaks and fresh water depend on heat and air conditioning. The bigger the dog, the better crating is an option. There are ways a simple 2-liter can be flipped upside down to provide enough water for any trip. Remember, if you aren’t traveling by car, then ask about our truck rules and crates. Most local moves, no worries.
• Cats: Cats go in a crate. You can use a harness to walk them, but we do not walk cats on a leash in unfamiliar territory. Having the truck wait on your cat is a way to say, “Life sucks”.
• Fish: Freshwater fish is all we can comment on. Fish go in a bag for 4-6 hours, up to 48 hours. Fish prefer the dark to rest. Water movement is normal for fish; however, nobody knows if your fish will survive. We do suggest they go in a box. Fish normally sit in the bag in your aquarium’s top until the water temperatures are the same.
• Snakes and Lizards: Stressless and easy is the word. The only thing that we can even imagine happening is transporting chameleons. If you have one, we will take your advice on what you want to do about it.
• Wildlife: Most animal owners have their own ability to transport hobby animals. Please request a conversation about hitch size if we need to pull a trailer. It will be up to the ownership, but we’ll help if we can.
• Spouses and In-laws: Your family does not ride in the back of the truck. Our vehicles do have seatbelts. We will not discuss openly if the staff can ride back there, but this is the South.
Common courtesy is the only way to live in this world. We’re here to be courteous to critters, and if you’re not in our area, we hope you choose people that do. Animals travel long distances in planes all the time. Sometimes, bulldogs and pugs have to be transported by land. It just depends on the position of the moon. Call today if you’re in Tampa or have a question about hiring us.
