03 Feb How to Move a Safe into your Home
Movers always move a safe into your home first. This is normally because the pathways are clear and your things are out of the way. It is difficult to touch things twice, so position your safe in the back of the truck as the last thing loaded. Follow these easy-to-follow steps:
• Measure first. Have a tape measure handy to ensure that your safe fits through all doorways. If stairs are involved, then measure the railing space also. If stairs are involved, you may want to have no stairs involved.
• Scratches are avoidable, but dents are not. You can use blankets and paper to ensure that your safe does not scratch walls. If a safe is really heavy, then dinging your wood may happen with a blanket or not. It is a very heavy item.
• Dollies have a weight limit. Just like anything else, a few tires on a dolly will go flying immediately under extreme pressure. A safe is best moved via a heavy-duty floor dolly. If you need to purchase a heavy-duty floor dolly, then it is probably cheaper to just have a mover do it.
• Clean your floor before handling. You may be surprised that even the slightest piece of mulch or wood under a safe may end up embedded in your floor permanently. Choosing a piece of plywood may also sink into your floor; go heavy-duty if you can. Remember aesthetics come into play permanently, so be aware of how you want below your safe to look.
• Unload your safe completely. Having the fewest amount of things that weigh anything is a great option. Sam’s Movers won’t move a gun safe without everything removed first. We do not transport firearms.
• Make the decision. A safe is a decorative part of your home. Ensure that you like the position of your safe before the movers leave. It helps a ton to visualize how you want the safe to integrate into your decorum before making the final decision to let the movers leave.
Safe moving can be relatively simple with the correct equipment. Many safe owners choose to anchor their safe to a surface like a wall or floor. If you do choose to anchor the safe, then explain to us over the phone your desires, and we may have the correct equipment to make it happen for you.
